I’m all jazzed up and inspired from attending this year’s Cause Camp! Cause Camp is the annual 2-day nonprofit conference hosted by Nonprofit Hub in Lincoln, Nebraska. The folks at Nonprofit Hub booked the ‘dream team’ of speakers from both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
The first time I heard about Cause Camp was last month – in an email I received from John Haydon, a digital PR and fundraising expert. I subscribe to John’s emails and was sucked into a Cause Camp goofy video he made. Within 24 hours, I had bought my plane ticket to Nebraska, made my hotel reservation, and signed up for Cause Camp 2017!
I know better. I just keep forgetting. It’s like when you put a load of laundry in the washer with the intention of switching loads in a couple hours, only to completely forget about it until the next day. (But worse.)
I am angry with myself because I know our nonprofit’s email list is the most important tool we have to reach our supporters. That’s right: not Facebook, not Twitter, not flyers, not mailed letters, not working a booth at an expo. Email. After all, our email list contains all the people who said “yes” to our organization. They expect to receive direct communication from us.
And, boy, I forgot this list-building tactic… again. (more…)
